Applicants who already hold a BCO certificate, will need to revalidate every five years.
In order to revalidate, the holder must complete at least 180 days service as a BCO within five years, continue to hold a valid White List COC or maintain the approval of the flag state to act as a BCO, and maintain the following short course certificates:
- Personal survival techniques (A-VI/1-1)
- Minimum standard in competence in firefighting
- Elementary first aid
- Personal safety and social responsibilities
- Hold a proficiency in survival craft (PISC) certificate
- Security awareness
In addition, a VHF operator’s certificate recognised by the flag state shall be required.

- Original Confirmation letter - to confirm sea time
- Original BCO logbook
- Copy of COC
- Copy of Basic Stability Course Certificate
- Copy of Advanced Stability Course Certificate
- Copy of passport - to confirm name
- Passport size photo (coloured) JPEG - to print on certificate
- Copy of valid Practical Training Course Simulator or Simulator Refresher
