Requirements
A Shuttle Tanker Dynamic Positioning certificate can be revalidated providing you meet one of the following criteria:
a) Revalidation of a Shuttle Tanker DPO Certificate requires participation in at least 18 offshore loading operations and one set of annual trials (or FMEA) within a five-year period or
b) If less than 18 offshore loading operations but more than six, within the past five years. Complete Course B, followed by Phases 3 and 4 of the Shuttle Tanker Scheme or
c) If fewer than six offshore loading operations have been conducted in the five year period, the DPO should restart the Shuttle Tanker Scheme process at Phase 2 and complete all subsequent phases. Due to conversion, 24 days sea time can be deducted from the requirements of Phase 2, but all offshore loading operations in Pathway A or B must be completed
d) Where these revalidation requirements specify participation in annual trials or a FMEA test within a five-year period, in exceptional circumstances this requirement may be fulfilled by participation in an additional Simulator Course (such as Offshore Loading Phase 3) in lieu of the trials, completed during this five-year period.
If you are a Master holding a DP certificate, you can claim for DP sea time due to your direct responsibility for and supervision of the DP operations. In this case, the DP sea time shall be recorded in the NI or IMCA logbook, signed and stamped as the DP Master.
Confirmation Letters
For revalidation applications, company letters confirming the DP days sea time and the offshore loading operations must be provided for any time to be used as part of the application.
Application for Revalidation
Once the above requirements have been completed, you will need to apply online for the revalidation of the Shuttle Tanker Dynamic Positioning Certificate. As you are revalidating, an account will already be held on The Nautical Institute database from when your original certificate was issued (even if you did not apply online) and this account must be used. If you do not know your login details please first try the ‘Forgot password’ option on the login page. If the system confirms that no email address is linked to the account please use the ‘Revalidating but don't know your login details?’ option to set up your login details for the account already held on our system. Please do not open a new account.
Once logged in on the Alexis Platform website, you should update any personal details which may have changed. Depending on which of the above requirements were met (shown above in the Requirements for Revalidating), you will need to complete all the details necessary on the online application form. Once the information has been entered, the application should be submitted online to check if you are eligible. The payment option will only be available if you meet the revalidation requirements and the once the payment has been completed, the application should be sent into The Nautical Institute offices for processing.
Documents to be sent to the Nautical Institute offices are:
- Copy of passport personal details page
- Copy of STCW certificate held
- Original NI logbook
- Original IMCA logbook (if applicable)
- Original DP Revalidation logbook (if applicable)
- Original DP Certificate
- Confirmation letters for all DP sea time and/or DP activity time
- Additional documents where necessary
Once documents are received by The Nautical Institute, an automatic email will be generated and sent to your registered email address with an indemnity letter containing a QR code, which can be used onboard of DP vessels during the period of 3 months. This letter shall be accepted by the charterers onboard as temporary DP certificate license, and will confirm that your logbooks and documents are being verified by the NI team.
Please note that all applications are subject to verification once they are received by The Nautical Institute.
