Certification and Accreditation Standard

The old scheme and its policies will remain valid for those who started training prior to 1 January 2015. All trainee DPOs who started the training scheme before January 2015 will have their training assessed on the old DP scheme rules.

Trainee DPOs who start the training scheme from 1 January 2015 (i.e. DP Induction Course) will carry on training under the criteria and conditions set up for the new training scheme.

The new version of the DP training standard has been split into two volumes. One for DPOs and trainee DPOs, and then a second containing further information for training centres:

The Nautical Institute Dynamic Positioning Certification and Accreditation Standard Vol. 1 - Training and Certification - V1 - January 2021

The Nautical Institute Dynamic Positioning Certification and Accreditation Standard Vol. 2 - Accreditation  - V1 - January 2021

Please note that the time for completing the initial training for the Offshore New Scheme,  Shuttle Tanker Scheme and DP Self-elevating Platform (Jack-up) Scheme has been increased from four years to five years.

The time for completing the initial training for the Offshore Old Scheme has been increased from five years to six years.

We are currently in the process of updating our guidance documents but please note that the downloadable documents on this page may still refer to the old rule.
